2011 Terrain Overview

Terrain is a 5-passenger SUV that offers bold styling, agile handling, premium features and impressive cargo capacity. Terrain also offers outstanding efficiency, delivering best-insegment highway fuel economy of 32 mpg on 4-cylinder, front wheel drive models. In addition to the 4-cylinder engine, Terrain offers a V6 engine with E85 capability and all models are available in either FWD or AWD configurations. The 2011 GMC Terrain is offered in four trim levels:

• SLE-1.
• SLE-2.
• SLT-1.
• SLT-2.

• Bold style – Muscular fender flares, a prominent grille and smooth, tight surfaces with wheels pushed out to the ends give Terrain a bold, athletic appearance.
• Powerful, efficient engines – Terrain’s two available engines include both Direct Injection and Variable Valve Timing for increased power and enhanced efficiency. The 2.4L 4-cylinder puts out 182 hp and returns up to 32 mpg highway. The 3.0L V6 engine produces 264 hp and delivers up to 24 mpg highway.
• Premium interior – Reflects GMC’s signature attention to detail. The premium materials, contrast stitching and GMC red ambient lighting around the cup holders, door pulls and center control panel are all details that provide a refined look and feel.
• Standard Rear Vision Camera System – With larger B- and C-pillars for rollover safety, the standard Rear Vision Camera System improves rearward visibility when backing-up. It helps drivers to better see certain items behind the vehicle when backing up at low speeds or when parallel parking.
• Standard Multi-Flex rear seat – The exclusive Multi-Flex sliding rear seat has almost 8" of fore-and-aft travel. It provides segment-leading leg room and first-class rear-seat accommodations. The Multi-Flex rear seat has three recline positions and is split-folding for flexibility.
• Programmable-power liftgate – The available programmablepower liftgate can be activated from the key fob, overhead console or from a button on the liftgate itself. It can be programmed to accommodate the owner’s height, garage height or any other height restraints.
• Rear-Seat Entertainment (RSE) – Monitors are integrated into the rear of both front seatbacks. Operation is through the audio system controls, the hand-held remote or through the video input jacks integrated into each monitor. A hard drive is also included that allows storage of media files in the system.
• Connectivity – A standard USB port in the center console allows the connection and playback of music stored on portable electronic devices. Bluetooth allows the connection of compatible Bluetooth phones to the vehicle’s audio system for making and receiving hands-free phone calls.
• Safety – Terrain offers a comprehensive package of safety features. With its responsive steering, ABS and StabiliTrak and Proactive Roll Avoidance, drivers are better able to avoid crashes. The air bag and safety belt systems help protect occupants during a crash. Plus, OnStar notifies emergency services after a crash to help them get to the location as quickly as possible.

Power & Performance

• 2.4L DI I4 engine – Standard on all Terrain models, this engine is one of the most advanced 4-cylinder engines available in North America. Direct Injection (DI) and Variable Valve Timing (VVT) ensure impressive performance and efficiency. The 2.4L is rated at:

– 182 hp @ 6700 rpm. – 174 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4800 rpm.

• 3.0L DI V6 engine – Available on all Terrain models except SLE-1, this engine is one of the most powerful and fuelefficient V6 engines on the market. Like the 2.4L engine, DI and VVT are included for enhanced power and efficiency. For 2011, this engine adds E85 FlexFuel capability. The 3.0L is rated at:

– 264 hp @ 6950 rpm. – 222 lb.-ft. of torque @ 5100 rpm.

• Outstanding fuel economy – All Terrain models deliver exceptional fuel economy. Four-cylinder models have best-in-class fuel economy ratings and V6 models are very competitive.

– 22 city/32 highway mpg (I4 FWD). – 20 city/29 highway mpg (I4 AWD). – 17 city/24 highway mpg (V6 FWD). – 16 city/22 highway mpg (V6 AWD).

• Impressive cruising range – Outstanding fuel economy combined with large fuel tanks (18.8 gallons on I4 models; 20.9 gallons on V6 models) deliver impressive highway cruising ranges of over 500 miles on both the I4 and V6 models.
• 6-speed automatic transmissions – All Terrain models include a 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-cylinder models feature the Hydra-Matic 6T45; and V6 models use the Hydra-Matic 6T70. Transmission features include:

– ECO button: Alters shift patterns and powertrain calibrations to provide maximum fuel economy (4-cylinder models). – Auto-grade braking: The transmission automatically shifts into a lower gear while braking on a downgrade to help preserve brake life. – Electronic Range Select (ERS): Allows the driver to manually control the top gear. This is especially helpful when driving downhill or towing a trailer. – Driver Shift Control (DSC): Allows the driver to manually shift through the gears.

• Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) – Terrain features GM’s first application of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology. ANC is standard on all Terrains with a 4-cylinder engine to counteract audible harmonics created from the tuning of the engine for optimal fuel economy. ANC uses microphones to detect sounds inside the vehicle and sends counteracting sound waves through the audio system’s speakers, ensuring a quiet driving experience at almost all vehicle speeds.
• Towing capacity – Four-cylinder models are rated to tow up to 1500 lbs.; V6 models are able to tow up to 3500 lbs. Factoryinstalled trailing equipment (a rear receiver hitch and 4-wire connection) is available on all models except SLE-1.

Ride & Handling

• Body Frame Integral (BFI) architecture – Provides a rigid and strong platform for stable and secure handling and a smooth ride.
• Independent suspension – Terrain features a 4-wheel independent suspension system: MacPherson struts in front and multi-link in the rear. This setup gives Terrain car-like handling and road feel.
• 4-wheel disc brakes with Antilock Braking System (ABS) – This standard system uses disc brakes for effective stopping performance and ABS to help drivers maintain control by reducing wheel lockup during hard braking on most slippery surfaces. A hill-hold feature prevents Terrain from rolling backward when the driver moves their foot from the brake to the accelerator on steep inclines.
• Standard StabiliTrak – Standard on all models, the system includes Traction Control and Roll-Over Mitigation.
• Steering system – An electric rack-mounted power steering system is used on 4-cylinder models. V6 models utilize a hydraulic system.
• Electronic on-demand all-wheel drive – During normal driving on dry roads, the system runs in front-wheel drive mode for optimum fuel economy. When front wheel slippage is detected, the system automatically sends power to the rear wheels, ensuring that power is always delivered to the wheels with the most traction. This action occurs automatically and seamlessly, with no driver input. Available on all Terrain models.

– 17" painted aluminum wheels (PFF) with P225/65R17 all-season tires are standard on SLE models.

– 18" machined aluminum wheels (Q6D) with P235/55R18 all-season tires are standard on SLT models and available on SLE-2 models.
