Ever since GMC resurrected the HUMMER in 2022, it has done a great job at keeping all of the things that made the massive vehicle iconic. It eliminated any of the old-school model's less desirable features and developed new ones that augment its formidable power. CrabWalk is yet another innovation that makes the HUMMER EV shine in ways its predecessor couldn’t
CrabWalk allows massive vehicles to navigate tight trails and tricky parking spots with a level of ease that is unprecedented for its size. The feature is made possible by the HUMMER EV’s 4-Wheel Steering system. When activated, it allows the rear wheels to turn at the same angle as the front wheels by up to 10 degrees, which in turn enables the vehicle to glide diagonally into parallel parking spots or slide past obstacles a similarly-sized vehicle might be deterred by.
To use this feature, simply follow the instructions below.
CrabWalk mode is meant to be used at speeds of 20 miles per hour (mph) or less. If you travel above that speed, the front and rear wheels will no longer turn at the same angle. Traveling above 25 mph for more than ten seconds will cause the CrabWalk feature to disengage. When you are ready to disengage CrabWalk, press the 4-Wheel Steering button again.
For the 2024 model year, CrabWalk is available on the following vehicles:
