Originally founded by D.R. McArthur as a buggy sales and horseshoeing service, Weld County Garage entered the automobile industry in 1908 and became the first Buick dealership west of the Mississippi. The Garage became a General Motors (GM) dealer on September 16, 1908, when GM was founded as a holding company for Buick. Alongside Buicks, the dealership also sold Cadillac models, although the timeline for their Cadillac sales is unknown. In 1912, with the merger of the Reliance Motor Truck Company and the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, GMC trucks were created, leading the Garage to expand into the truck business. The company reverted to its original name, Weld County Garage, Inc., in 1914. In 1926, when Pontiac was introduced to the GM brand lineup, Weld County Garage began selling Pontiac models.

Changing Times, Changing Needs

The Garage has a rich history that goes beyond the car business. Originally operated a large showroom on 8th Avenue and 10th Street, which not only sold Buick, Pontiac, and GMC vehicles but also offered appliances to the community. As time passed, the showroom transitioned into a spacious indoor facility exclusively for Buick and Pontiac cars, providing a comfortable environment for customers to browse during harsh Colorado winters.

Whether it’s organizing charity drives, raising awareness for specific health issues, or contributing to disaster relief efforts, the dealership consistently steps up to make a positive difference. By involving its employees and customers in these initiatives, The Garage fosters a sense of unity and instills the value of giving back at every level.

Furthermore, the Garage extends its support to various local organizations, including non-profits and community service groups. Weld County Garage offers sponsorships, donations, and volunteer services to help these organizations continue their invaluable work.
