The Beginning
D.R. McArthur opened the store in 1901. The following photo shows the beginnings of D.R. Mc Arthur and
Company Hardware, which would later become Weld County Garage.

By 1908, the Garage begins to sell Chevrolet and Automobiles. That same year, on the date that became “General Motors” and The Garage became a GM Dealer.
Early 1900’s The Garage begins selling Automobiles.
1920’s
By 1926 the Pontiac had been added to the GM Brand Line Up. Naturally, the Pontiac was available for sales and service at Weld County Garage.
1930’s
During the 1930’s GM makes even more high quality, beautifully designed and stylish vehicles. One of the more gorgeous and affordable 1930’s vehicles is the Chevrolet 1935 Master De Lux .
1940’s
By the 1940’s Chevrolet, and Pontiac Vehicles had long been readily available at Weld County Garage. Auto repairs were a major part of The Garage’s offerings and the business was flourishing.

took over the corner of 8th Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Greeley CO.
1950’s
By the 1950’s GM Sales are soaring thanks to numerous gorgeous models from Chevrolet, and Pontiac. , although affordable priced is called “The Million Dollar Ride” thanks to its solid comfort and incredible curb appeal.
Certainly not the first pickup truck made by Chevrolet, but 1968 brought the Half Ton CST Fleetside Pickup Truck.
The 1970’s brought the Chevy Vega and the Chevy Blazer to The Garage in Greeley, CO. Chevrolet had long made versatile vehicles that were ideal for any occasion or use, but the 4 Wheel Drive Blazer now available with a V8 engine and capable of towing up to 6000 pounds was another GM game changer.

The Weld County Tribune recognizes The Garage as “Weld County’s Best Automobile Dealer” in 1994.
Additionally, in 1996, following many years of Weld County Garage being an important fixture on the city
of Greeley, CO. The Weld County Garage Sign is added to the City of Greeley Colorado Historic Preservation Commission and receives a plaque, recognizing the sign that has stood, and still stands in Greeley, CO, since 1949.
