Monster Day Greeley 2026: The 10th & Final Event Guide
By Ryan Green, Marketing Director — Weld County Garage GMC | Updated August 2026

After ten years of monsters taking over downtown, it ends this Saturday. Monster Day Greeley, the free street festival that turned our city into the monster capital of Colorado every August, is throwing its tenth and final party on August 22, 2026. And Weld County Garage GMC is proud to be a title sponsor for the send-off.
If you’ve never been, this is your last chance. If you’ve been every year since 2016, you already know why the plazas will be packed. Here’s everything you need to plan your visit, plus what we’re bringing to our booth (hint: three big GMC trucks, a mountain of balloons, and a real Distortions Unlimited zombie animatronic you can win).

Why This Is the Last Monster Day
Monster Day started ten years ago as an idea from Ed Edmunds of Distortions Unlimited, the Greeley company that has built monsters and haunted attraction props for decades. What began as a quirky local celebration grew into a nationally attended event, a partnership between Distortions and Downtown Greeley that put our city on the map for monster fans everywhere.
“We’ve loved doing Monster Day with all our heart for almost a decade now, but just like an old vampire, it’s time to put a stake in it.” — Marsha and Ed Edmunds, Distortions Unlimited
The organizers have hinted at a possible future fall event with the same spirit, but nothing is finalized. So treat August 22 as what it is: the last dance. Organizers are planning to make this the biggest Monster Day ever.
One more reason to feel good about going: proceeds benefit Don’t Be A Monster, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that puts on anti-bullying assemblies for students in 4th through 10th grade.
The Costume Contest: $2,000 in Prizes
The costume contest is the heart of Monster Day, and for the final year the prize pool is $2,000. Whether you’ve spent months on a full creature suit or you’re throwing something together Friday night, get in on it. Rules, categories, and registration details are on the official contest page. Read them before Saturday. A few things changed this year.

Find the Weld County Garage Booth (Both Days)

Weld County Garage has been part of Greeley since 1908, so sponsoring the final Monster Day felt like the right way to say thank you to a downtown event that gave this community ten great years. We’ll have our booth up Friday night for the kickoff concert and all day Saturday.
Here’s what’s waiting for you at the booth.
Win “Death Rising,” a Real Distortions Unlimited Zombie Animatronic
Three Monster-Sized GMC Trucks for Photos
Climb up, take photos, put your little monster in the driver’s seat. We’re bringing three of the biggest, boldest GMCs on our lot, as long as nobody drives them home before Saturday. Tap any of them to see the actual truck we’re bringing:
A Balloon Display You’ll See From Across the Plaza
We teamed up with Balloon Art by Merrymakers for a monster-themed balloon display at our booth. Their crew builds the kind of balloon art that stops foot traffic. Here’s a taste of what they do:

Tips for Your Last Monster Day
- Come early. Downtown parking near the plazas fills fast on event days. Get there close to noon Saturday or plan to walk a few blocks.
- Wear a costume. Nobody looks out of place at Monster Day except the person not in costume. And there’s $2,000 in contest prizes on the line.
- Charge your phone. Between dozens of Distortions creations, roaming monsters, our trucks, and the balloon display, you’ll burn through storage fast.
- Hit both days. The Friday concert from 6 to 10pm is a different vibe than Saturday’s festival. Our booth will be at both.
- Enter the Death Rising giveaway. Sign up in person at the Weld County Garage booth. Someone’s taking home a real Distortions zombie animatronic.
- Bring a few bucks. Admission is free, but food trucks, vendors, and downtown businesses will have monster-themed specials worth trying.
One more thing. It’s late August in Greeley, which means sun. Hats and sunscreen for the little monsters, water for everyone.
